Fahrenheit 451 Project
In the Fahrenheit 451 project, John Smith, Opinion Editor of Teen Ink asked us to write an article concerning media control after he read the book Fahrenheit 451 and wondering, "How does the media affect us?". The topic that I chose for this project was the effects of violent video games on teens. My driving question was, "How do violent video games effect aggression levels in teens. My conclusion was that violent video games are not harmful, but can actually be helpful.
By completing this project, I have greatly added to my written proficiency skills. By written proficiency I mean, the ability to read to write, and write to read. To be able to express ones-self
clearly to various audiences in multiple genres and subject areas through ones ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. The ability to be able to evaluate ones own writing in order to revise effectively, taking charge of ones own writing process.
This project helped me grow in written proficiency by having me to write something that I would have to submit to an actual publisher: Teen Ink. This put some healthy pressure on me to write as best I could. Through the chores of this project I also learned ethos, pathos, and logos, writing elements of persuasion discovered by the Greeks, and how to properly incorporate these writing elements in my writing.
